Commemorating International Religious Freedom Day and the 19th Anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act

International Religious Freedom Day

In 1998, President Bill Clinton signed the International Religious Freedom Act into law, creating the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), and the State Department's Office of International Religious Freedom and Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom.

Did you know? Today is International Religious Freedom Day.

The Church of Scientology and Scientologists around the world have always been staunch advocates of freedom of religion for all. From its beginnings, the Church of Scientology has recognized that freedom of religion is a fundamental human right. In a world where conflicts are often traceable to intolerance of others’ religious beliefs and practices, the Church has, for more than 60 years, made the preservation of religious liberty an overriding concern.

The Creed of the Church of Scientology, written in 1954 by L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology religion, states:

We of the Church believe: That all men have inalienable rights to their own religious practices and their performance.

A vital component in preserving this fundamental human right is an understanding of the right to freedom of religion or belief and its meaning under universal human rights principles and international human rights law.

In this regard, the Church has published a new booklet—What is Freedom of Religion?—designed to inform the public regarding the detailed and complex nature of the right to freedom of religion for believers and religious organizations of every faith.

We invite you, on this special day, to read this booklet and share it with others. Everyone has the right to freedom of religion and everyone should know their rights!
