On October 8, 1993, Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, announced to more than 12,500 Scientologists in Los Angeles, that seven days earlier, the United States Internal Revenue Service had just granted full religious recognition to the churches of Scientology, finding them “organised exclusively for religious and charitable purposes.”
In describing this milestone in the history of the Scientology religion, Mr. Miscavige predicted this would “mark the beginning of our greatest expansion ever.”
And indeed it has. Since that time, the number of Scientology churches, missions and groups has expanded by more than six times.
