Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour Effective Solutions for the People of Calcutta

With seven teams traveling through Africa, South America, India, Asia, Central Europe, Russia and the South Pacific, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tours are a vital part of the Church’s social betterment mission.

A case in point is the India Goodwill Tour.

In January 2006 they attended the Calcutta Book Fair, to announce the publication of a series of the booklets based on the chapters of the Scientology Handbook.

Touring thousands of people through their bright yellow tent they attracted the attention of Mr. Mohammed Khalil Ullah, a local Calcuttan who has made it his life’s work to help improve the lives of the people of the Calcutta slums.

Mr. Ulla immediately recognized the value of the technology of L. Ron Hubbard, and adopted the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program into the philanthropic programs he has created for his city.

With an estimated one third of Calcutta’s 14 million residents living in slums the urgency of implementing Scientology effective solutions cannot be underestimated.

On learning about Study Technology, a methodology discovered and codified by L. Ron Hubbard to help anyone learn any subject, Ullah set up a "free school" in the slums, and implemented the study technology as part of the curriculum.

He formed up a team of local Scientology Volunteer Ministers who have trained on the Scientology Handbook and are prepared to carry on with the work when the Goodwill Tour moves on to the next city on its itinerary.

Now he and his group have another tool that will help them accomplish their goals. This month the booklets from the Scientology Handbook will be released in Bengali at the New Delhi Book Fair. This release will make Scientology tools available to the 200 million people who speak Bengali as their native language

Thirty years ago, L. Ron Hubbard created the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program with his essay titled Religious Influence in Society, where he wrote:

"If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a VOLUNTEER MINISTER and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance."
